Research is a strategic focus for Horus Pharma, following a key objective: innovation in terms of therapeutic solutions and services for the benefit of patients.

With a dedicated team, the Laboratory is structured to develop new generations of products. It spends 10% of its turnover on Research and 20% of the staff is involved in R&D.

Innovation through connection

Convinced that innovation is born from interactions and matching of expertise, the Laboratory works closely with medical specialists, hospital practitioners, scientists, universities and reference centres. The Vision Institute in Paris, INSERM, and INRA are among our key partners.

Horus Pharma has built a network of industrial partners consisting of pharmaceutical laboratories and other companies with complementary activities (biotechnology company, CRO, plastics processors, materials specialists, etc.).

Innovative preservative-free solutions

The preservative-free culture is a central point of Horus Pharma’s Research. The Laboratory has developed and patented solutions to ensure microbiological quality without resorting to preservatives, known for their allergenic and toxic effects in the long-term.

Innovation developed and patented by Horus Pharma

With a new technique for low temperature sterilization, this manufacturing method ensures microbiological quality and integrity of highly concentrated active ingredients (more specifically hyaluronic acid) without using any preservatives. Our Ilast® products, dedicated to the hygiene and care of the eyelids, are the first medical devices to benefit from this major innovation combining efficacy and safety.

Out of the Laboratory’s R&D expertise, Epifree® Technology is a perfect example of the innovation practice developed and patented by Horus Pharma in the “preservative-free” market. 

CLARTÉ LABORATOIRE - a new skincare brand: the expertise of micro-movements

The Micro-Movement Skin ScienceTM technology is based on the understanding of micro-movements that constantly affect the skin, impacting its elasticity, firmness and tonus.

Clarté Laboratoire is a skincare brand based on reasoned formulas, meaning they are free of potentially irritating or dehydrating products. They are preservative-free, alcohols-free and without silicones, or perfumes, and have a maximum of 15 ingredients.

Distribution network

Beyond scientific expertise and marketing, Horus Pharma also expands product distribution through partners and an efficient sales network. Horus Pharma distributes its products in France and through subsidiaries, as well as in many other countries through distribution agreements.

Patents cover a wide range of innovations resulting from Horus Pharma’s R&D: formulations, manufacturing processes and packaging solutions.

The development and filing of patents demonstrate the innovative potential and the multidisciplinary in the R&D teams. A common theme guides this ambitious research policy: the development of solutions that do not require any preservatives, while guaranteeing optimal efficiency and microbiological quality.

The I FREE SYSTEM® preservative-free multidose vial

Developed in partnership with CEMEF and labelled by the Artemis regional innovation centre, the Ifree System® is a multidose vial for preservative-free eye drops and ophthalmic gels. Its design incorporates the ergonomic constraints needed for easy use, particularly by the elderly.

The EPIFREE ® TECHNOLOGY manufacturing process

Unique manufacturing process, Epifree® Technology is based on a low temperature sterilization process preserving the quality of assets without requiring any preservatives. Highly concentrated in active ingredients, dermatological products from the Ilast® range benefit from the Epifree® Technology patent from the HORUS PHARMA R&D Laboratory. Ilast® thus establishes itself as the first patented range of eyelid care and hygiene medical devices free from preservative, fragrance and alcohol.

Research center, Vision institute

Established since 2008 at the Vision Institute, Horus Pharma benefits from a state-of-the-art research environment recognized worldwide for its work in the field of ophthalmology.

Located in Paris on the site of the Hôpital des Quinze-Vingts (CHNO) and directed by Prof. José Alain Sahel, the Vision Institute is the first integrated research centre in Europe, fully dedicated to eye diseases. Supported by INSERM and Pierre and Marie Curie University, this multidisciplinary research institute aims to share knowledge and techniques to quickly reach new milestones in the areas of eye diseases and vision. On 6000 m², researchers, clinicians and industry partners collaborate to understand, discover and test the treatments and technological innovations of tomorrow.
